Science
Science is taught discretely each week in Key Stage 2. At Key Stage 1, we teach a creative theme on a two-year rolling program which includes the subjects of geography, history, science, art, and design technology. Meaningful and relevant links are made to improve children's knowledge and skills without losing any of the rigour of individual disciplines. In Early Years, science is integrated into a topic-based approach and opportunities for working scientifically are planned into continuous provision and explicit teaching.

The national curriculum prescribes units of work that focus on specific knowledge and working scientifically objectives. Vocabulary is explicitly taught within these units. We have mapped these objectives to ensure that, across their time with us, children repeatedly access all aspects of working scientifically in a range of contexts:
Throughout KS1 and KS2, we use have adapted the Engaging Science scheme of work to balance working scientifically with secure modelling of scientific concepts. We are fortunate to have received specialist CPD in science led by the STEM centre at the University of York.
As science is a broadly spiral curriculum, we have mapped learning lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic into future units.
Assessment of knowledge and conceptual understanding in science occurs through regular low-stakes quizzing and in summative assessments. Assessment of working scientifically skills is based on the TAPS assessments.
